AS a concerned Guyanese, I am shocked at the ‘promises’ made by the Alliance for Change (AFC) and A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) during their 2011 electioneering campaign. They promise to reduce personal income tax, raise wages for “certain” employees and reduce the 16% VAT. I am concerned because the only way to fund these “promises” is to raid the treasury. They plan to spend the money that the Peoples Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) has saved during the last 19 years to fund their campaign “promises”. Are Guyanese going to fall for this? Some people might. They did not save the money yet they want to spend it.
So what can Guyanese expect from a PNCR-led APNU victory at the polls? The answer is a quick “flight of fantasy fix” of reduced taxation, illusionary wage rises and possible reduced VAT.
What they will actually be getting is skyrocketing cost of living, a bankrupt Guyana in five years and an expanded, armed security force to drive fear into citizens (or keep them under control) from ex-army man David Granger.
Time to grow up Guyanese. A free lunch? We live in the real world. In the real world things and development cost money. So where is the APNU or AFC going to get money/investment to fund Guyana’s development and their grand campaign “promises”? Perhaps “philosopher” Freddie Kissoon will “philosophise” some into existence.
Do not be fooled Guyanese. Give David Granger (APNU’s presidential candidate) his marching orders. Say NO to the APNU. Say NO to the AFC. Say NO to a bankrupt Guyana.
Promises, Promises
