Facility was never to serve as far as ‘D’ Field Sophia

GUYANA WATER INCORPORATED (GWI) wishes to respond to the article published in the Kaieteur News, dated Saturday October 8, 2011 and titled “Sophia residents say New Water Treatment Plant useless”. The company wishes to reiterate the statements quoted in the article by GWI’s Public Relations Officer; despite the location, the Sophia facility serves a portion of the Sophia community as well as large regions of Bel Air Park, Prashad Nagar and Campbellville.  In fact, the facility serves as far as Blygezight Gardens and Sheriff Street, Campbellville.
The facility was never intended to serve as far as “D” Field Sophia which is beyond the capability of the treatment plant.  However, GWI has been working strenuously to complete a new well in Cummings Lodge which will provide relief to the remaining residents of Sophia. The new well is presently being developed and the company is working extensively to have it activated in October.
Once completed, a significant portion of Sophia will experience relief.  We are asking for the patience and partnership of all residents as our teams continue to work around the clock to complete works on the Cummings Lodge Well.
Guyana Water Incorporated thanks the Kaieteur News publication for highlighting the issues which affect our customers.  We continue to strive towards improving our delivery of service to customers across Guyana.
