Berbice, Demerara clash in El Dorado 50 – Over final today

We will win, says Berbice coach
CELLINK Berbice coach Adrian Amsterdam is quite confident of a victory today when the Berbicians clash with a dominant Demerara side in the final of the El Dorado 50-Over Cricket Competition at the Albion Community Centre ground from 09:00 hrs.
Speaking to Chronicle Sport yesterday about predictions on the game, Amsterdam chose not to take a stab in the dark but responded by saying, “We will win.”

The squad is playing on home soil with the support of the crowd; according to the coach. That is very important to the team and especially to senior players Narsingh Deonarine and Assad Fudadin who play a major role for the team and reside in that area.
Defending champions Berbice recorded two victories and suffered a loss in the preliminary round to Demerara and will be looking to bounce back to retain the title.
Amsterdam said: “We are pumped up; we knew we lost but we feel we could turn it around because I’m certain that we got the crowd support.”
In Berbice’s two preliminary-round victories, they comfortably disposed of the two weaker teams, Essequibo and President’s XI. However, Amsterdam stated that Demerara is much stronger and on a different level but can be matched even though they do not have a full-strength team.
He added that there will be some changes to the line-up for today’s match.
Meanwhile, Demerara are bursting at the seams with confidence after progressing to the final round unbeaten and in an earlier interview with captain of the side, Leon Johnson, they are staying focused and trying to not let confidence become complacency.
The side was a force to be reckoned with in the first two matches against Essequibo and Demerara even without their most senior player Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who joined the squad for the final preliminary match against President’s XI, where he put in a sterling performance.
Even though Demerara got past Berbice, they are still not underestimating the defending champions and will be going all out to re-capture the title.
