Essequibo farmer plunges into canal to escape bees

A FARMER  driving his tractor on the dam in Cozier Agriculture Scheme, was forced to plunge into a nearby canal after the exhaust pipe came into contact with a nest of Africanised bees that was hooked on a hanging tree limb.
Goberdan Polasray, of  Westbury, also on the Essequibo Coast, said he did not see the nest until the bees started to attack him.
When the insects began to sting him, he quickly stopped the tractor and ran for his life, with the swarm of hundreds in hot pursuit of him.
Polasray said his only escape was the canal and he took the plunge head-long into the water, ducking several times to avoid is pursuers.
The father of six said he was stung at least 60 times on his arms, head, face and back. Another farmer,Carl Roberts, who was with Polasray on the tractor,  escaped unhurt.
He said he saw the bees nest when it fell on the vehicle and quickly jumped off  and ran to safety.
