ANOTHER accused chain snatcher, Akeem Haymer (no address given) was granted bail, on a larceny charge Friday, despite police objection. Before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, he pleaded not guilty to the larceny from the person allegation, which said, on September 7, he stole a $100,000 gold chain from Dexter Smart.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, objected to pre-trial liberty for Haymer on the basis of the seriousness of the offence.
She said the virtual complainant was in a shop when the defendant snatched his jewel and rode away on a bicycle but persons in the area chased and apprehended him.
The magistrate overruled the prosecutor and allowed Haymer his freedom on a $100,000 bond until September 19.
