Glenn Lall inadvertently reveals that he owed Roger Khan
IN startling revelations exposed by the whistle-blowing website, Wikileaks, Kaieteur News publisher, Glenn Lall has identified several businessmen to United States (U.S.) diplomats as having drug linkages.
Among these was Omprakash ‘Buddy’ Shivraj. In a cable to Washington, Political Officer in the U.S. Embassy in Georgetown, Benjamin Canavan revealed that Glenn Lall had related to him that Shivraj had run into financial difficulties when he was building his combination hotel/gym/nightclub/restaurant and bar and could not access funding from anywhere, including the commercial banks; so he sought funding from business colleagues whom Glenn Lall described to the US officials as the “drug kingpins” in Guyana; whom he also named.
However, in a letter to this newspaper, a greatly disturbed ‘Buddy’ Shivraj repudiated Glenn Lall’s assertions, as told to Benjamin Canavan and exposed by Wikileaks.
Shivraj said Lall’s allegations to the U.S. official are complete fabrications and misrepresentation of facts surrounding the financing of the project involving the construction of Buddy’s International Hotel and he provided details of the sources of his financing, which this newspaper published.
“Who are the businessmen that Glenn Lall identify to diplomats as drug kingpins?”
With all these revelations through Wikileaks, members of the Private Sector have been left wondering who else may have been identified by Glenn Lall as having links to “drug kingpins”; and who else may be targeted next by the U.S. state machinery as Roger Khan has been.
Whether all the accusations made against Peter Ramsaroop – of his engaging in voyeurism, having been accused by a young tenant of electronically spying on her; of his having been a wife-abuser, or shirking his responsibilities as a father; of his engaging in dishonest business practices; of his being an egomaniac and political opportunist are true or not, no rational person would think or call him ‘mad’.
But Glenn Lall has done so. And the reason for Glenn Lall calling Peter Ramsaroop ‘mad’ is that Peter Ramsaroop made the startling revelation that he (Lall) knew the gunmen who murdered his pressmen; among other revelations, which those who claim to know Glenn Lall and the way he operates say are believable.
According to Ramsaroop, Glenn Lall also revealed to him (Ramsaroop), that self-confessed drug dealer Roger Khan had been blackmailing businessmen who owed him, and conjectured that the murder of his innocent pressmen was either a retaliatory attack, a warning, or that the perpetrators were looking for guns. Nothing pointed to robbery being a motive.
He also cited an earlier grenade attack on his premises.
Double-crossers, historically, especially those who engage in shady dealings and have been discovered to be a double dealer – with the latent threat to life and property, most often attempt to eradicate rivals or former associates out of the equation through strategic manoeuvres.
‘Muckraking’ newspaper caught in electricity theft
Kaieteur News was caught stealing millions of dollars of electricity from GPL, which indicates a dislike for paying debts.
One manoeuvre that may have been found to silence, or to create synergies to facilitate the removal of Roger Khan may have been to link him to the drug trade through clever subterfuges, like innuendoes or outright accusations in diplomatic ears, as has been done to ‘Buddy’ Shivraj and other businessmen.
A United States cable emanating from the Georgetown embassy to Washington, according to Wikileaks, has quoted Presidential hopeful Peter Ramsaroop, who claimed to have spoken at length with Kaieteur News publisher Glenn Lall after the murder of the five Kaieteur News pressmen in the Eccles Industrial Site on August 8, 2006 – a conversation and subsequent communication that have proven very revealing.
The Wikileaks expose revealed that then Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Georgetown, Michael Thomas, had informed Washington that, although the motive for the seemingly-incidental murder of the Kaieteur News pressmen remained unclear to law-enforcement authorities, Ramsaroop had intimated to him during an August 19, 2006 telephone conversation that Lall had related to him his (Lall’s) suspicion that the murders were either a retaliatory measure by Roger Khan, whom he said had been blackmailing businessmen who owed him.
Which begs the question: Why would a convicted drug dealer be blackmailing Glenn Lall, by his own admission to Peter Ramsaroop as conveyed by the latter to Deputy U.S. Chief of Mission, Michael Thomas?
There is current speculation, based on these revelations, on the person who may have directed U.S. attention to Roger Khan.
Another U.S. embassy cable from a US Embassy official to Washington had indicated that Lall had met with him on August 13, 2006 and that, during their discussion, Lall had divulged that he knew some of the gang members, some of whom he said were as young as twelve years of age, and that the attackers may have expected to have found “weapons” at the printery.
Which also begs the question: Why would gunmen from a criminal gang seemingly related to drug operations expect to find weapons in a newspaper production unit? And this was related to a U.S. official by no less than the publisher of the newspaper involved.
Whether debts owed by Glenn Lall to Roger Khan, as the former revealed to Peter Ramsaroop, was the cause for someone directing U.S. attention to Roger Khan, who is hailed as a hero in some sections of the Guyanese community, is moot at this point, because Roger Khan has himself confessed to drug crimes and has been taken out of the equation; albeit opposition elements who confessed to worse crimes – including murder, have been given sanctuary by the USA, along with their relatives, which proves the direction of the bias of that country with regards to a certain section of the Guyanese community, and any PPP government.
However, the Glenn Lalls and their opposition accomplices, along with the representatives of the countries that continually seek to depose successive PPP governments and destroy PPP supporters have failed this time, because Guyanese have become an enlightened people and will no longer allow themselves to be divided and ruled by self-serving elements whose agenda are all geared toward self-aggrandizement, and representatives of a country who have proven to be perennial and irrational enemies of the PPP and its supporters.
Wikileaks has revealed that Glenn Lall had fingered several of his business colleagues to U.S. diplomats as having drug links.
Now, while Glenn Lall makes grandiose public gestures to prove himself an ideal citizen, such as opening bank accounts for donors to deposit monies to help with a cause; and an honest man with a mission to expose corrupt practices, he himself is not averse to circumnavigating honest pathways in his business dealings.
This has been proven by his stealing millions of dollars from GPL through illegal connections, even while lambasting that state entity for shortfalls in service delivery, without reporting that it is electricity thieves like muckraking newspapers that cause woes at GPL and deprive honest consumers of efficient service by that entity.
It has also been proven by the way he fabricates or twists stories about government officials, departments and projects, as well as his business rivals, while simultaneously trying to boost his own image as an upstanding citizen.
In conversations with U.S. diplomats and Peter Ramsaroop…
