THE Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) will battle for supremacy in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)-organised Queensway 50-over final today at the GCC ground, Bourda from 09:30 hrs.
In yesterday’s semi-final playoffs, DCC secured a three-wicket victory over Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) at the DCC ground and GCC clinched a nerve-racking one-wicket victory over the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) Sports Club at the Everest Cricket Club (ECC) Ground.
At the DCC ground, MSC took first strike and amassed 270 all out in their allotted overs then DCC in reply reached the target of 271 in the 44th over.
Leading the chase for DCC was Travis Dowlin who was left unbeaten on 74 from 75 balls as he received support from Trevon Griffith 29, and Andrew Lyght Jr, who made 42.
Steven Jacobs and Neil Barry grabbed a wicket each for MSC while Shaquille Williams, Steven Sankar and Dion Ferrier supported with one wicket each.
Earlier in the MSC innings, Kwame Crosse narrowly missed out on a half-century when he was bowled by DCC’s Christopher Barnwell for 49 at the top of MSC batting line-up.
MSC’s run rate slowed in the middle of their innings but they were able to stage a recovery in the end as Kellon Carmichael pitched in with a welcome 32 while half-centuries from Carlos LaRose (70) and Williams (52) got them to a respectable total.
Barnwell bagged four wickets with support from Dennis Squires, Totaram Bishun, Griffith and Omesh Dhanram as they took one wicket each.
It was a low-scoring affair at Everest as GNIC could only set a target of 171 before they were rooted out in 40th over while GCC scampered to 175-9 inside 44 overs.
Jeteendra Sookdeo steered GCC to victory with a resilient performance that got him past the half-century mark while Robin Bacchus, Vishaul Singh and Treon Forde made 24, 28 and 18, respectively.
GCC were able to hold off the attack led by off-spinner Collis Butts who grabbed four wickets while Leroy Bristol and Elton Baker claimed two wickets and O. Fraser accounted for the other GCC wicket.
When GNIC batted, scores of 35 from Shavon DeSouza and Ronola Bouriec along with Baker’s 21, Butts’ 17 and Rayon Griffith’s 16 were only enough to get the team to 170.
GCC’s Joshua Wade and Raj Nanan claimed three GNIC wickets each as Gavin Singh grabbed two and Kevin Ogle and Leon Johnson took one wicket each.
