Brazilian woman club owner slapped with prostitution charges

A BRAZILIAN woman was yesterday ordered to post $1M bail after she was slapped with five charges of procuring five different women to prostitute.
Maria Nascimento, 39, of Lot 333 Cummings Street, Alberttown, Georgetown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry but was not required to plea to the indictable offences.

Particulars of them said:
* between April and June 29, at Club Coca Cabana, located at Lot 333 Cummings Street, Alberttown, she procured Stacy Afecia to become a common prostitute;
* between March and June 29, at Club Coca Cabana, she procured Jeniana Fernandes for the same purpose;
* between June 20 and June 29, she did similarly with Mekela De Souza;.
* between April and June 29, she also procured Janna Da Silva  and
* between June 25 and June 29, at the same address, she procured Karla Da Silva.
Attorney-at-law Mr. James Bond, for the accused, requested reasonable bail and Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, did not object but asked that it be a substantial amount and the accused report to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) twice weekly and lodge her passport.
The lawyer said Nascimento is a businesswoman who owns the said club.
The cases will be called, again, on September 22.
