THE Justices of the Peace (JPs) and Commissioners of Oaths Association has recognised that the noise nuisance has become a social ill, like alcohol and drug abuse.
Presently, all over Guyana, people are being bombarded with noise in the public transport, in the neighbourhoods and even in the safety of their homes. People are suffering great discomfort and ill health , due to continuous noise from the music boxes, in the alcohol beverage shops, street corners, from machine and other workshops, carts selling musical devices, private vehicles with so much noise, that the window panes rattle as well as lorries with their fog horns.
Some persons park their vehicles in business areas with their alarms on and, due to the sensitivity, a little vibration will set off the alarm, which would wail for minutes on end then start all over again, disturbing business people and professionals.
These noise makers display total disrespect –probably due to poor education – to their fellow human beings and the law; they display false egos and selfishness.
Of course, the police are trying but are not doing enough to curb the noise nuisance for different reasons.
As Justices of the Peace and Commissioners of Oaths, we stand ready to assist the police and victims of the noise nuisance who cannot get relief.
We are prepared to swear to affidavits of complaint on this noise issue to be forwarded to the police.
