FOLLOWING up on the ruling of Ian Chang, Chief Justice (ag), on August 22, President Bharrat Jagdeo met with Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr Frank Anthony and members of the cricketing fraternity on August 25, and then with WICB president Julian Hunte in the presence of Minister Anthony and West Indies Cricket icon, Clive Lloyd on Tuesday. The Minister of Sport invited representatives from the Guyana Cricket Board, Essequibo Cricket Board, Berbice Cricket Board and the two factions of the Demerara Cricket Board to the first Interim Management Committee which was scheduled for Wednesday, August 31, at the Minister’s Secretariat.
However, because of Eid Ul Fitr, a few members requested a change of date. The meeting was therefore held yesterday.
At the meeting there were representatives from the BCB, and one faction of the DCB. The ECB asked for time to name their representatives and the other faction of the DCB and representatives from the GCB sought clarification on the IMC ..
As was intended, the Hon. Minister chaired the first meeting and stated that the Ministry and Government were acting on the ruling of the Court and for the good of cricket.
This introductory meeting was quite productive with discussions and decisions made in respect to the composition of the IMC, the head of the IMC, review of cricket boards’ constitution, cricket administration and developing a work plan for cricket development, etc.
The Hon. Minister emphasised that the work of the IMC and the process of cricket development can only succeed if there is will and commitment from all involved.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday, September 7, 2011.
