Guyana to face Trinidad and Tobago in two T20 matches at GCC ground

GUYANA and one of her Regional nemeses Trinidad and Tobago will engage each other in two T20 practice matches at the world renowned Georgetown Cricket Club ground next Tuesday and Wednesday, as part of their Twin Island Republic’s preparations for this year’s Champions League tournament to be held in India. According to reports reaching Chronicle Sport, national players  Royston Crandon, Veerasammy Permaul, Rajiv Ivan and Leon Johnson along with Christopher Barnwell, Derwin Christian and Devendra Bishoo will be involved in a practice game at the GCC ground from 10:00hrs today.
Following the practice game, the Guyana team will be selected to face T&T who participated in the first Champions League tournament which was held two years ago in India, and ended as runners-up to Australia’s New South Wales, who carted off the $2.5M top prize following their 41-run victory.
The teams for today’s trial match will be led by Barnwell and Crandon and all players are asked to be at the venue for 08:45hrs, in order to facilitate a prompt start.
Royston Crandon’s team will come from: Royston Crandon (captain), Steven Jacobs, Richard Ramdeen, Shemroy Barrington, Narsingh Deonarine, Rajiv Ivan, Anthony Bramble, Jonathan Foo, Paul Wintz, Andre Stoll, Raj Nannan, Krishna Deosarran and Ronsford Beaton.
Barnwell’s team will be chosen from: Christopher Barnwell (captain), Trevon Griffith, Rajendra Chandrika, Assad Fudadin, Leon Johnson, Devon Clements, Derwin Christian, Devendra Bishoo, Veerasammy Permaul, Brandon Bess, Kellon Carmichael, Eugene La Fleur and Andrew Lyght Jr.
Meanwhile, the GCB is looking at having two exhibition matches between Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago ahead of the West Indies versus Pakistan female T20 fixtures which will take place at the Guyana National Stadium on September 10 and 11.
With this in mind, they have shortlisted a 26-woman squad to participate in a T20 trial match at the Demerara Cricket Club ground from Monday.
The following players have been selected and are asked to be at the venue for 08:00hrs Monday morning: Latoya Smith, Katana Mentore, Akaze Thompson, Lashauna Toussaint, Jocell Joseph, Nalini Sumintra, Abiola Jacobs, Natasha Archer, Adrina Hacketts, Stefaney Rodney, Hasina Mohamed, Kavita Yardram, Plafffiana Millington, Trishana Cort, Heema Singh, Celyon Daniels, Vinita Sevwarran, Melanie Jaikaran, Maria Brijmohan, Oliva O’Selmo, Desmona Hill, Jessica Gonsalves, Jacqueline Singh, Anganie Lalbachan, Timeca Kerr, Resha Khan, Nirmala Sewdat and Lakesha.
The national women’s coach and the manager, Yadram and Carol Nurse, are asked to be present at the venue. (Calvin Roberts)
