Bajan Pride humble and ready to rumble with Golden Jaguars
THE Barbados football team, nicknamed Bajan Pride, arrived in Guyana ahead of their World Cup Qualifier match against Golden Jaguars which is set to take place tomorrow at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence from 20:00hrs.Yesterday, Bajan Pride’s assistant coach Thomas Jordan was present at a press briefing along with the coach of the home side Jamal Shabazz and captain of the Jaguars, Christopher Nurse. Jordan said that they have been in preparation for the competition for about two to three months. “We had some challenges to face but we have been able to get past them and get in about 80% percentage of what we wanted to work on. It’s a young team we have because we did not get access to our foreign players since we did not present the paperwork to their clubs,” Jordan stated.
He said that they are ready to play and will surely try to win and not get a draw like the last time they met Guyana on a friendly tie.
The assistant coach had no predictions for the match and did not want to disclose much information about his team but did say Guyana will be in for a challenge come game time.
Shabazz was quite brief in his remarks disclosing that Guyana were almost fully prepared for the first round of the tournament and that they are putting the few challenges they faced behind and are focused on the task at hand.
Shabazz said: “Like Barbados, we also have a young team with a few veterans in the mix to steady the boat. However, this is time to build, build a new team, build new players and also build a better future for Guyana.”
Nurse and fellow senior player, Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson, who are foreign-based players, both said it was a pleasure to be back in Guyana to represent their country disclosing that they know they have quite important roles to play for Guyana to be successful in the battle.
Shabazz input that he thinks Richardson has become more mature than the last time he saw him and has made a great impact on the younger players since his arrival a few days ago.
Finally, the coaches and players present at the briefing along with acting president and organising secretary of the Guyana Football Federation urged the Guyanese people to come out and support their team as they seek World Cup Qualification
