GDF bounces back to beat Camptown Sunburst 2-1
FOLLOWING a 1-0 defeat on the opening night of the Fruta Conquerors-organised Milo U-23 football competition, GDF produced an excellent performance to overcome Sunburst Camptown. Led by Paul Bobb who netted twice in the encounter on Sunday night at the Tucville Playfield, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) completed a 2-1 victory to claim their first three points.
On Friday evening GDF was needled by Flamingo Football Club in a see-saw showdown.
The GDF/Camptown match saw the eventual victors dominate in the midfield and defence areas but could not be as effective with their strike force while Camptown’s strikers were on top but supported by a weary defence and mid-field combination.
In the first half Camptown went ahead as early as the 13th minute when Jahall Greaves finished with a terrific header, following a stint of attacks from the Camptown forwards.
The second half resumed with the army still down by a goal but with the mid-field substitution which introduced Jason Lewis, GDF’s plays got stronger as the game progressed.
Lewis, along with seasoned midfielder Bobb pressed through the defence and gave them their first goal in the 60th minute.
As the match progressed GDF were gifted with a penalty which was successfully converted by Bobb – the goal which was the game winner.
In other results, the Guyana Police Force defeated Charlestown United 2-0 with Derron Bentick scoring in the 60th and 65th minutes.
In the other showdown of the day Northern Rangers and Riddim Squad (RS) played to a 1-1 draw as Dorville Stuart scored for RS in the 11th minute while Tevin Foster scored for the opposition in the 50th minute.
Action continues today at the Tucville Playfield from 17:00hrs as GFC take on Riddim Squad. Camptown meet Northern Rangers and Santos face Beacon at 19:00hrs and 20:00hrs respectively.
