Screams from Claudine led Ryan to kick down door
STAR witness Ryan Lewis, called ‘Bow foot’, in the Den Amstel murder trial, yesterday told Justice Roxanne George and the jury how the screams of Claudine Rampersaud, now deceased, caused him to kick down a door to rescue her. Rampersaud, Lewis’ sister-in-law, was found dead in the building on June 16, 2001. A post mortem performed by Dr. Nehaul Singh revealed that she died of cerebral hemorrhage due to stab wounds to the head.
Her reputed husband, Dwayne Jordan, has been indicted with her murder and is at present facing trial at the Assizes.
After kicking down the door, Lewis was attacked by Jordan, armed with a hatchet and a knife. They rolled down the stairs and Lewis was able to identify his attacker.
Lewis passed out from wounds inflicted by Jordan and came to in hospital.
“After leaving hospital I accompanied the police to the scene where the screams of Claudine had caused me to kick down the door,” he said.
This morning, Lewis will be subjected to cross-examination by defence counsel, Mr. Nigel Hughes.
Prosecuting in the matter are Miss Prithima Kissoon and Miss Konyo Sandiford.
