MAGISTRATE Hazel Octive-Hamilton sentenced George Chase (no address given) to six months imprisonment, on Tuesday, for simple larceny.
The prisoner pleaded guilty to having, last May 9, stolen a cell phone, valued $35,000, belonging to Roni Thelemaque. Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant was a passenger in a mini-bus when the thief took the phone off the dashboard.
The prosecutor said the owner made a report at Brickdam Police Station, in Georgetown, where the convict, on being arrested, admitted the theft and promised to return the phone chits but never did.
Chase had claimed he got the phone from a friend who stole it from the owner but is willing to repay the virtual complainant.
