Guyana assists in relief efforts in Somalia

THE Government of Guyana will donate US$25,000 in response to the Consolidated Appeal for Somalia by the United Nations, in support of efforts to provide humanitarian aid in the wake of the severe famine which has affected regions in Southern Somalia, and the consequential effects of the drought on the populations in parts of the Horn of Africa. “The Government of Guyana stands in solidarity with the people in the Horn of Africa, and hopes that quick and adequate responses from members of the international community to the United Nations Agencies and international humanitarian organizations will be forthcoming to provide urgent life-giving assistance and to prevent the crisis from escalating,” a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says.
