The Laparkan Group of Companies held its Annual Bursary Award Ceremony yesterday in the William Fogarty’s Limited Boardroom, Water Street, Georgetown. This Bursary Award Programme started in 1997 with the objective of motivating and supporting employees’ children who took part in the National Grade Six Assessment.
Under this programme, the children of employees who obtained 65% (and above) marks at the NGSA exams received a monetary prize and a trophy. While provision has been made to reward six (6) students only two (2) students were eligible this year.
At the presentation ceremony other awardees over the past five years received their cheques.
Addressing the students, Executive Director of Laparkan – Mr Vibert Parvatan congratulated the awardees and wished them continued success. He stated that this was the 15th year of the programme and that, over that period, there were 78 beneficiaries, many of whom became professionals.
He suggested that students must develop a sense of national pride and cultivate an attitude of gratitude while striving for excellence. He asked them to be good students, good citizens and good human beings.
Parvatan also indicated that Laparkan Group remains committed to the development of Guyana and referred to the Laparkan Teachers Award Programme which aims at motivating teachers.
