PRESIDENTIAL candidate of the People’s Progressive Party, Donald Ramotar, has urged residents of Dartmouth Village on the Essequibo Coast to mend their differences and unite as a people. Speaking at the village Emancipation cycle race on Sunday, Mr. Ramotar called on residents to use the lessons taught by the freedom of slaves to work together to make Guyana a better place.
He also urged residents to use sports as a medium of socialising and emancipating themselves from the negatives and burdens of life.
Ramotar congratulated the Dartmouth Neighbourhood Democratic Council for organising the activity to mark Emancipation Day in their village.
Chairman of Region 2, Ali Baksh, also urged residents to live in unity and to always remember the struggles of their fore-parents.
Chairman of the Paradise-Evergreen NDC, Cornel Damon, said the council held the cycle race as a tribute to African ancestors who settled in the village after Emancipation.
The race started from Charity and attracted 25 cyclists, including four females.
The male cyclists rode from Charity to Henrietta and then back to Dartmouth, while the female cyclists rode from Charity to Walton Hall and back to Dartmouth.
Upon the PPP Presidential Candidate’s arrival in Dartmouth, many residents embraced Ramotar and pledged their support to him at the upcoming national elections.
