AS teams step up their preparations for the inaugural Hits and Jams Entertainment Jam Zone Master’s Cup Twenty20 two-day tournament, local T20 champions Universal DVD Club’s Berbice Titans and the Hits and Jams Superstars have announced their 14-man squads. The four-team, four-match competition is scheduled for the Guyana National Stadium, Providence on Friday, August 12 and Sunday, August 14 respectively, where cricket fans will get a chance to see some leading West Indian T20 players in action including talismanic opener Christopher Gayle.
As they did in last year’s DJ Stress T20 Festival, which they won convincingly, the Titans have waived their rights to include overseas players in their lineup, relying mostly on their very own who have been in training for the past two weeks for the mega event.
Included in their lineup are West Indies players Devendra Bishoo and Brendon Bess, while West Indies ‘A’ team players Assad Fudadin, who may lead the side, and Veerasammy Permaul, along with discarded West Indies middle-order batsman Narsingh Deonarine.
Caribbean T20 batting sensation Jonathan Foo, Richard Ramdeen former national Under-19 skipper Eugene La Fleur and Rajiv Ivan, Michael Newland and off-spinner Krisendat Ramoo are all in the lineup for the Titans.
24-year-old wicketkeeper Tyrell Tull, who played in Guyana’s championship winning 2006 Stanford T20 team, will lead the Hits and Jams squad which includes four West Indies players – Gayle, Andre Russell, Danza Hyatt and Dwayne Bravo.
National middle-order batsman Leon Johnson, who played three limited overs matches for the West Indies back in 2008, will execute the duties of vice- captain to Tull in their squad, which also includes Robin Bacchus, Jeetendra Sookdeo and left-arm orthodox spinner Raj Nannan.
Former national players Orin Bailey and Gavin Nedd are the coaches working with the Hits and Jams Superstars. The New Line Cavaliers and Georgetown Pitbulls are yet to name their teams.
The first game is scheduled to be played from 17:00hrs and the second from 21:00hrs each day, with gates open from 15:00hrs. The organisers plan to keep the fans entertained during the intervals of all matches.
