Curtain goes up on Building Expo 2011

…105 booths fill the Providence Stadium to capacity
IN just a few hours, the much talked about and highly anticipated International Building Expo 2011 will see its grand opening ceremony at the National Stadium, Providence.

The parking lot of the stadium will come to life at 17:00hrs this evening as the exhibition is ushered in.
In preparation for the grand show, many of the exhibitors, both returning and new, have been working around the clock to have their displays ready for the big night, for all to enjoy.
According to one of the event’s organizers, Andre Ally, there will be approximately 105 booths at this year’s Building Expo, including 15 companies from overseas.
Because of this tremendous response from the private sector, there is no more room at the site.
As to the progress of the preparations he assured that, all is going according to schedule and will be ready for the big opening.
“Everything is on stream, everything will be put in place before the opening night; all of the major projects are almost close to completion and will be ready well in advance of the opening ceremony.”
Ally noted that there has been improvement in the organization of the event from last year with preparations progressing faster than anticipated.
He encouraged all members of the public to visit the exhibition site from the opening night on the 29th, through to the 31st, when the expo will culminate.
“We can ask you to expect a magnificent expo, the biggest you have ever seen,” he assured.
Meanwhile, as the clock winds down to opening night, most of the participants were observed putting the final touches to their displays at the expo site on the East Bank of Demerara.

First Time Participants

One such display, from Home Well Builders, was almost completed yesterday, and according to a representative, Lindley Blue, they are expecting great things from their participation.
He said, “This is our first time taking part, we are looking to bring something with a difference to the market.”
The company will have on display a model home, which, Mr. Blue explained, will be an affordable choice for any homeowner to consider.
Another first time participant, from Silver Line Construction Company, expressed great anticipation at the amount of recognition that the exposition will offer to the new entity.
“We are excited to show our prototype which is very affordable, and we also look forward to meeting people and letting them know what we have to offer as a company,” Contractor, Nazeer Bacchus shared.
Joining the team of first time exhibitors, the Chief Executive Officer of Comfort Sleep, Dennis Chawran, pointed out that he too is anticipating the event and its outcome.
He stated, “We have participated in the just concluded Berbice Expo and in GuyExpo too, so we are here for the first time and are very excited.”
Also, a new comer in the construction arena Building Material Depot’s representatives, were engrossed in ensuring that all systems were at the go for their inaugural display.
One of the company’s representatives, Salim Khan, highlighted that the entity is just five months old, and he noted that they are happy to be taking part in such an important event.

“We will show the Guyanese public what we have to offer; and hopefully, they will recognize that we have a good product to offer them,” he stated.
Building Expo brings together all the stakeholders in building and construction, and this year the participating companies include Republic Bank, Buddy’s Housing Development, DuraVilla Homes, the Ministry of Tourism, Torginol Paints, Neal and Massy, TCL Guyana and other companies.
