THE Guyana Police Force (GPF), as part of activities in observance of its 172nd Anniversary, held a Scouts Day last Sunday, at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary, Georgetown.
The activity commenced with the investiture of a number of scout leaders by the Scout Association of Guyana at the Police Officers’ Mess Annexe, Eve Leary, followed by an exhibition to showcase the skills and abilities of the various scout groups.
The Police Force revived its scout groups on November 02, 2008, in Georgetown, in an effort to create another recreational venue and training facility for young people. Since then, other vibrant groups have been established in Berbice, Linden and at Agricola. Efforts are continuing to have scout groups in all Police Divisions.
Meanwhile, more than 280 children are attending this year’s annual Police Youth camp, from yesterday, through July 30.
The camp is being held in collaboration with the Guyana Police Wives’ Association at the Linden Foundation Secondary School, Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
Children between the ages of eight and 14 were selected from the force’s youth clubs and scout groups. Campers will be involved in craft-work, educational talks on health and traffic, information technology, and games.
The camp will be managed by Assistant Commissioner Carol Lewis-Primo, assisted by other police ranks, members of the Police Wives’ Association, and other volunteers.
This year’s Police camp is being held under the theme “Preparing our youths for a brighter future”.
