CONSEQUENT to an ex-parte application relative to a cricket controversy, instituted by Angela Haniff in her capacity as Secretary of the Berbice Cricket Board, Chief Justice Ian Chang, S.C., has granted an order restraining the new Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) executive from performing functions on behalf of the Board, until the controversy is ended.
In the meantime, the Chief Justice has also ordered that in the interim the previous GCB executive headed by Mr Chetram Singh should perform the functions and duties of the GCB until further ordered by the Court.
Angela Haniff, in her capacity as Secretary of the Berbice Cricket Board, a constituent member of the Guyana Cricket Board and a delegate of the Berbice Cricket Board at the Annual General Meeting of the Guyana Cricket Board held on the July 10, 2011, brought the action against the new executive body which includes Ramsey Ali, in his capacity as the purported president of the Guyana Cricket Board, Fizul Bacchus, Alfred Mentore, Anand Sanasie, Dru Bahadur, Anand Kalludeen, Colin Europe, Troy Mendonca and Terrence Holder, Chetram Singh, in his capacity as a purported Trustee of the Guyana Cricket Board and Lionel Jaikaran, Respondents/Defendants jointly and Severally. Lawyers Anil Nandlall and Mr M. Narayan, appeared on Haniff’s behalf.
The Court order restrained the respondents and defendants by themselves, their servants, and or agents, and each and everyone of them be restrained and an interim injunction be and is hereby granted restraining the respondents and the defendants by themselves, their servants and or agents from holding out themselves as officers or representatives of the Guyana Cricket Board or in any manner whatsoever, acting on behalf of, or for, the Guyana Cricket Board or performing any functions, until the hearing in relation thereto until the hearing and determination of a summons in the Cause returnable for the 29th day of July 2011 at 09:30 hrs.
