I WRITE in response to a silly little letter by M. l. Maxwell who continues to make regular deposits of nonsense in the press. Maxwell’s latest piece takes aim at President Jagdeo and Mr. Donald Ramotar, the distinguished PPP/C presidential candidate. Despite every effort to sideline the achievements of the PPP/C, this Maxwell person had to acknowledge that President Jagdeo has presided over a resurgent Guyana.
At a time when many nations in the world are reeling from economic problems, Guyana is moving forward, a fact Maxwell knows too well.
Donald Ramotar has stood the test of time and has the support of a wide cross-section of the Guyanese public. Unlike Mr. Ramotar who has the support of his own party, the PNCR’s David Granger must be shaken by the latest NACTA poll which showed that many PNCR supporters wanted Carl Greenidge at the top.
What Maxwell does not say is that APNU came about because Granger is having lots of difficulties and so he needed another label behind which he could hide. Poor Rupert Roopnarine was cajoled into the act, and then, publicly disrespected at the launch. Maxwell does not say one word about this predictable act of marginalisation.
Maxwell must be living in another world regarding his claims about the Jagans and Donald Ramotar. Mr. Ramotar was at the very top of the PPP, providing a steady hand at the wheel. The PPP/C is successful because it has first-class leadership in such people as Donald Ramotar, and because of its ability to stay in touch with issues that matter to the Guyanese people. This is what poor M. Maxwell fears.
