Guyanese woman fined $15,000 for forgery

TRINIDAD EXPRESS – A Guyanese mother of five, who wanted permanent residency status in this country, was on Friday fined a total of $15,000 by a Port of Spain magistrate after she was found guilty of being in possession of and uttering a forged document.
Yonnet Allison Ward, 46, of El Socorro Main Road, El Socorro, has been living in this country since 2001. She got married and wanted to make this country her permanent home, the court heard through defence attorney Criston Williams.
The State alleged that on August 9, last year, Ward went to the Immigration Department located along Frederick Street, Port of Spain, to apply for permanent residence.
The officer noticed that a stamp on the passport which granted Ward an extended stay in this country appeared suspicious.
Further checks revealed that the stamp was a fake.
