RESIDENTS of Region Three (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara) will continue to benefit from improved infrastructure including roads and bridges, according to Region Three Chairman, Julius Faerber. During a telephone interview with the Guyana Chronicle last week, the Regional Chairman noted that these improvements would be realised through the continued execution of projects under the Region’s Capital Works Programme.
He said, “To date 30 percent of works has been completed and other projects are ongoing for the capital works programme while 25 percent of works under the current budget has been completed.”
As to the scope of the works completed, Faerber pointed out that rehabilitation works has been done to several health posts including those located at Aliki and Lanaballi.
In addition, the upper flat of the West Demerara Regional Hospital has been extended to improve the services offered to patients.
Community members will also benefit from the rehabilitation of several roads in areas across the region including at Leguan, Endeavour and Glendor.
Many schools, both primary and secondary have also undergone infrastructural improvements.
Faerber explained: “There was the construction of the upper flat of the Primary School at Cornelia Ida, the Headmistress quarters was added at Bonasika and sanitary blocks were added at Sand Hill Primary and at Uitvlugt Secondary.”
The Leonora Nursery School was also enclosed and a new nursery school at Sans Souci in Wakenaam was built.
Added to this other improvement works included the construction of a koker at Hog Island and rehabilitation works at Moravian Dam at Canal No.2 Polder.
“We are working hard to achieve our work programme so that all persons living in the Region will benefit,” the Regional Chairman asserted. (CHEVON SINGH)
