Miller to meet Downes in GBTI men’s final clash today

JUST when many were starting to write off the defending champion, top seed Jeremy Miller put in an awesome display in his semi-final match against Leyland Leacock  on Monday evening, to set up a dream final against favourite Anthony Downes.
After an ordinary performance in the last tournament where he lost to Ezra Sue-Ho, Miller showed that he means business this time around  by overpowering veteran Leacock  6-0, 6-2 in a match lasting just over an hour.
Miller shut down all the challenges posed by Leacock, who took him to three sets last year, with his powerful groundstrokes
Miller is on course for three titles as he has already secured the Mixed Doubles title with Shelly Ramdyhan and the Men’s Doubles title with Jason Andrews.
His matchup against fellow 19-year-old college player Downes will be a fitting end to a tournament which has produced  high quality tennis and record crowds.
Downes on his route to the finals had already taken out second seed Ezra Sue-Ho  6-4,  6-2  in his semi-final encounter as well as former champion Phillip Squires in the quarters and his level of play has been impressive.
Match-time is 18:00hrs today.
