… against ‘two-beak vultures
Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee yesterday in defending the Citizen Security Programme (CSP) Community Action Component against persons who have been undermining it, described them as “two-beak” vultures”.
He added that the CSP programme was rolled out in communities countrywide with the aim of equipping youths to be gainfully employed, yet persons are seeking to undermine it. Rohee said, “I am very concerned about it, because the government is pushing the programmes and I would go as far to say there are like two-beak vultures because they pounce on something, and if they could make political mileage on it, they treat it like like dead meat.”
The minister said that the CSP Community Action Component was introduced to build unity and inter -community relations.
Rohee added that the skills training programme was rolled out in several communities across the country to equip youths to be gainfully employed, yet there are persons going around discouraging people from participating in the programme.
He said, “I find that very counter-productive; how can you, on one hand, demand of the government to roll out such programmes, and on the other hand, seek to undermine it and discourage persons from participating. “This is clearly a political move; this has nothing to do with elections as some are saying;this programme started in 2008 and intensified in 2009/2010 and it’s beginning to show results.”
The minister told reporters yesterday that their records show that in Region 4, in March this year, 325 persons participated in the programme, in April 127, and in May 273.
He noted that in Region 5, in March, 254 participated , in April 313, and in May 502.
