Escapee escort to Suriname…

N.A. Constabulary officer released on station bail
ASSISTANT Superintendent Charles Roberts, of New Amsterdam (N.A.) Town Constabulary, was released on $25,000 station bail Tuesday, minutes before the stipulated period for which he could be held by police expired, attorney-at-law Mr. Joswir Mizir disclosed.

The lawyer said the officer had been detained on suspicion of aiding and abetting as detectives investigated the unlawful escorting of convicted prisoner Krishna Doerga to Springlands, Corentyne and Suriname.
Last Friday, Prison Officer Orlando Jaundoo, 24, was remanded to prison following his appearance before Magistrate Roby Benn on a related charge.
Particulars of that offence said, on June 4, in New Amsterdam, the defendant helped convicted prisoner Doerga to escape.
It is reported that, at 13:30 hrs, Jaundoo was the escort of Doerga, who was convicted on a charge of obtaining by false pretence, to the Prison Recreation Centre on the pretext of the latter going to  repair a sewing machine but the duo, eventually, travelled to the neighbouring republic.
Following Jaundoo’s court appearance, it was alleged that Roberts had assisted in providing transportation for Jaundoo and Doerga to travel.
However, Mizir told the Berbice media that Roberts has a very good defence and is innocent until proven guilty.
