Cellink Berbice opens defense today
WITH a view towards emulating their Under-15 counterparts, Cellink Berbice will begin their defence of the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) organized Guyana and Trinidad Mutual Life Insurance (GTM) sponsored Inter-county Under-19 three day title against Essequibo commencing from today at the Guyana National Stadium.
Former national Under-15 skipper Shawn Pereira has been entrusted with the captaincy role for the Ancient County team and will have under his command, players in the caliber of Dominic Rikhi, his deputy Joemal La Fleur, Jamally Odle, Romario de Jonge, wicketkeeper/batsman Andy Mohan and Surujnarine Kandasammy in the batting department.
Their bowling will be led by Pereira, La Fleur, Gudakesh Motie Kanhai, Veerapen Permaul, Kevin Ramdeen, Linden Austin and Clinton Pestano.
The Cinderella County has been known to spring surprises in this tournament, having recorded victories over Demerara in the limited overs format last year.
This year, they will be led by Anthony Adams with first class bowler Ronsford Beaton deputizing, while amicable support in both the batting and bowling department will come from Herry Greene, Kevin Fredericks, Kevon Boodie and the versatile Ricardo Adams.
Prior to the start of the match which will be under the supervision of G. Sukhdeo and N. Shivsankar, GTM’s Company Secretary/Human Resources Manager Edward Persico will meet both teams at 09:30hrs.
