Essequibo Chamber elects new executive

THE Essequibo Chamber of Commerce and Industry held its Annual General Meeting on Saturday and elected new officers, since the organization has been inactive for sometime. Those elected to serve as  executive members are Mr. Tiwari Ramkellawan (Neal & Massy (Guy) Limited – President, Mr. Thakechand Ramnauth (retired teacher) – Vice President, Ms. Suean Seewnarayan (Medical Transcriptionist) –Secretary, Ms. Gene Amsterdam (retired educationist), – Assistant Secretary/Treasurer, Ms. Maria Lord-Lewis (Businesswoman) – Treasurer, and Mr. Ryan Vanslytman (Alfro Alfonso & Sons) – Public Relations Officer.
Elected Council Members are: Ms. Loran Gomes (GTM), Mr. Natram Ramnanan (Original Juice Centre), Mattadeen Etwaroo (General Store), Mohamed Nazmul (Wild Life Exporter), Jainarine Singh (Distributor), Hazrat Khan (Demerara Bank Limited), Nalini Dindial (Fishing & Fishing Supplies), Ganesh Jaigobin (Supermarket & Distributor), and Gaitree Ramsamooj (Republic Bank Limited).
Present at the meeting also was Mr. Roubinder Rambarran of the Private Sector Commission. Mr. Rambarran attended on behalf of Mr. Ramesh Doohkoo, chairman of the PSC. Mr. Rambarran shared with the meeting the role of the PSC and some of its recent achievements  and what the body is currently doing to strengthen the private sector through its continued engagement with the government. He also spoke of ongoing Private Sector initiatives including the pursuing of partnerships with businesses in Brazil.
Extending congratulations to the newly elected executive and council members, he urged the ECCI to work closely with the PSC to promote the private sector in Essequibo.
The elected President, Mr. Tiwari Ramkellawan, thanked Mr. Rambarran for attending the meeting and promised his support for the Private Sector Commission. He also acknowledged the responsibility that comes with his new role and pledged to build on the achievements of the ECCI and its past presidents as well as to introduce new initiatives to move the business sector in Essequibo forward.
