TWENTY-YEAR-OLD Amdat Persaud, of Lot 26 King Street, Williamsburg, charged with raping a high school student, was remanded to prison on Thursday. The labourer appeared at Albion Court, Corentyne, Berbice, as well, where the indictable charge was read to him by Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Albion Court.
Police Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant is a first former who shared an intimate relationship with the accused and, last December, when she was home alone, Persaud was visiting a neighbour and she invited him over to her house where they had sexual intercourse.
The prosecutor said the teenager, who lives with a single parent father, through her disrespectful behaviour, caused him to investigate the reason for the change in her conduct and, during his enquiries, he learnt that she was sexually active and made a report at Albion Police Station.
The Court was told a medical certificate confirmed the alleged violation and the case was put off to July.
