Crosse, Nanan guide Georgetown past East Coast
THANKS to solid all-round performance from skipper Kwame Crosse and Raj Nanan, Georgetown were able to chalk up a commanding 43-run victory over East Coast in their first round match of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Demerara Inter Sub-Association Under-19 tournament at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, yesterday.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, after early morning rain reduced the 50 overs-a-side encounter to 30 overs, Georgetown were bowled out for 126 from 27 overs, with Nanan 20 (2×6) and Crosse 19 (3×4) leading the way.
Mohan Ramdeen also contributed 15 that was decorated with one four, while Winston Forrester who made 13 and Chanderpaul Hemraj 12 featured in a 23-run fourth-wicket partnership for Georgetown, against the bowling of Gajanand Suknanan, Kamesh Yadram, Royston Simon and Arif Habib who took two wickets each for 11, 14, 17 and 21 runs respectively.
When East Coast batted, only Yadram with 30 (3×4) and Steven Ramdass 22 (3×4) managed to reach double figures, as Crosse who represented the West Indie sUnder-19 in Dubai in late April scalped 4-16 with his medium pacers.
Nanan took 3-8 and along with Amir Khan, who played one first class match for Guyana at the senior level this year, prior to going to Dubai with the West Indies Under-19 team, took 2-6 with his right-arm leg-spin as Demerara cruised home.
The other game at the Police Sports Club ground between West Demerara and East Bank was not played, as the rains took control of same, hence it has been rescheduled to a later date.
