COMMANDER of Berbice Police ‘B’ Division, Assistant Commissioner Stephen Merai has extended congratulations to divisional ranks who were recently promoted to senior positions.
He noted that they were recognised and recommended by the Police Service Commission (PSC) but assured those who were not that, if they keep working to make their country a safer place, they, too, will be rewarded.
Merai observed that there are some who have been in the same position for years, having been faced with or are facing simple allegations and disciplinary matters and pleaded for their cases to be expedited.
Speaking to the media, at Divisional Headquarters in New Amsterdam last Friday afternoon, he said, with the promotions are expected the transfer of some to other divisions and Police Headquarters, depending on the existing vacancies.
Asked whether he was satisfied with the performance of his senior officers, Merai paused before responding, “yes and no”, to what he described as a tricky question.
He said: “You have to work with what you have. You have to coach them, based on personal experiences.”
On the promotions list, at the divisional level, are Berbice Crime Chief, Senior Superintendent Courtney Ramsay; Berbice Traffic Chief, Superintendent Kevin Adonis; Superintendent Stephen Mansell, Officer-in-charge of Number Three Sub-Division; Deputy Superintendents Calvin Brutus, R. Dass and Fazil Karimbaksh, currently assigned to the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Also promoted are Inspectors Grace Bristol and Jairam Ramlakhan, who, previously, was Station Sergeant at Central Police Station.(JEUNE BAILEY VAN-KERIC)
