GCF/FIDE-rated Independence tourney to commence Saturday

ONCE again, the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) has partnered with the Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) TOPCO brand of juices, to organise a FIDE-rated chess tournament which will take place at the Kei-shar’s Sports Club from Saturday. Registration begins at 15:00hrs at the venue and round one commences at 16:00hrs, with the GCF using the tournament to allow unrated chess players to obtain ratings from the World Chess Federation (FIDE).
The Swiss System tournament consists of eight rounds and ends on Sunday, May 29, with each player being allotted a time control of 90 minutes per game plus an additional 30 seconds increment after each move, with the recording of moves being compulsory. Participants are required to walk with a pen.
Registration fees for senior and junior non-members of the federation are $800 and $600 respectively, with trophies and cash prizes at stake for the various winners. Interested players can contact  Irshad Mohamed on 664-1650 or Shiv Nandalall on 225-8270 during office hours for more information.
