RedJet has brought a sigh of relief

THE highly anticipated inaugural commercial flight by RedJet which arrived on Tuesday morning at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) from Barbados with 149 passengers on board, including top RedJet officials, was a most welcomed site and great news. One can only imagine how it must have felt to fly for that price instead of paying an arm and a leg plus a few fingers and toes to gouger, Caribbean Airlines.

Now the Government of Guyana must turn its attention to Guyanese residing in Canada and get with a programme like this to get Guyanese citizens home to visit and to be with loved ones in Guyana.

The reign of harassment and frustration Guyanese had endured at the hands of Caribbean Airlines must come to an abrupt end once and for all.

One can only imagine the anger Guyanese felt for all these years when they were made to either sit in the aircraft or in Trinidad to allow just about 20 to 25 Trinidadians off the flights before embarking to Guyana.

It’s sick to hear some of the remarks those officials in Trinidad made to Guyanese such as “how did you get Canadian passport boi” “you know you have overweight boi” “if you don’t pay for overweight the plane might fall out the sky boi”

Imagine your flight won’t leave Trinidad for the next four hours but when you ask Trinis to be let out to grab a smoke they tell you “no boi you might be back too late and might lose your flight”.

Imagine Guyanese are in transit to Guyana but yet Trini officials will demand you open your suitcase then they will try to tell you “boi you have to leave dis dat or de other with them because you are not allowed to take dat to Guyana.”

Guyanese are sick and tired of playing the role of second-class citizens to that of Trinidadians, so the time is ripe and right to put a direct stop to this.
Guyanese in Canada are urging the Government of Guyana to let’s have direct flights to and from Canada and Guyana.
Now is the time, not next week not next month not next year but now.
