ELORNA Jarvis (no address given) was sentenced to four years imprisonment yesterday for causing the death of Hardat Deepan by dangerous driving. The woman, who first appeared in Court on September 19, 2007, was convicted of committing the offence on September 10, 2007, at Farm, East Bank Demerara, when she drove motor car PJJ 973 in a manner dangerous to the public.
The prisoner told Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, before sentencing, that she had been making arrangements to compensate the family of the deceased but could not afford the $3M they were demanding.
