… beat Albion and Young Warriors
NATIONAL cricket captain Assad Fudadin led by example to spearhead the Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets (RHTGG) first division team to victory in the Guyanese Women in Development (GUYWID) Twenty20 fundraising tournament at the Cumberland Cricket Ground last weekend.
The eventual champions and Albion Sports Club (ASC) played in the lone semifinal with RHTGG batting first after winning the toss and amassing 145 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Shailendra Hardyal 28 (3×4), Renwick Batson 26 (5×4, 1×6), Rajiv Ivan 26 (2×6, 2×4) and Fudadin 25 (2×4, 2×6) were the principal scorers.
Bowling for ASC, H. Ramdihal took 3-18 and Ramnarine Chattergoon 2-25, before the strong ASC team were dismissed for 137 in 19.5 overs.
Ramdihal returned with the bat to blast 38 (3x, 4×4) while Harrinarine Chattergoon 25, Jonathan Foo 17 and Doodnauth Lallbeharry 17 offered support which was not enough against off-spinner Rajiv Ivan who snared 3-12, Eon Hooper 2-12 and Shawn Pereira 2-34 for RHTGG.
In the final, RHTGG asked Young Warriors to take first strike and they scored 140 off 15 overs with Waheid Edwards 38 (3×4, 2×6) and Balram Samaroo 33 (2×4, 2×6) being the main scorers, with Kevin Ramdeen 22 and Gajanand Singh 15 also reaching double figures.
Once again, Ivan was at the forefront of RHTGG bowling, this time taking 4-25 from 3 overs and Shameer 2-20, before watching Fudadin hit five fours and four huge sixes in his unbeaten 65 that took his team to 141-4 from 19.2 overs.
Ivan 35 and Jason Sinclair 15 not out supported Fudadin who was later named the Player-of-the-Tournament. RHTGG took home a trophy and $30 000, leaving Albion to settle for the runner-up prize of $25 000.
