WHAT has happened to the investigation promised for the Belle Vue Cane Farmers’ Marketing Co-operative Society at a meeting you had with them in July of 2010 at the Belle Vue Scheme, West Bank Demerara. It had been promised that, within six months the investigation would have been finished and fresh elections held (see KNews July 22, 2010). The farmers said between March-April 2010, they gave Mr. Jabar and Minister Nadir a petition with approximately 14 members’ signatures and they asked Mr. Jabar to give the society a copy, but none of the requests in this petition was acted upon.
This is April 2011 and no investigation. All the irregularities and malfeasances taking place in this cooperative society have not been corrected and it appears that there is no intention to launch an investigation.
On November 2010 Mr. Jabar told me in his office that the arbitrator acted outside his terms of reference, and he sent a directive letter to the committee to rescind the decision to terminate the 15 members who owed the society. He said he will also extend the date that the arbitrator set for the defaulting members to pay their debts to the cooperative from November 30th, 2009 to June 21st, 2010.
Mr. Jabar said you went to Belle Vue and had a meeting with farmers/members and he took over the management of the society ( KNews July 22nd, 2010) and one week later, (KNews July 28th, 2010), the minister responsible went and gave back this corrupt committee control of the society.
Some of the members paid up their debts to the society before June 2010, but they were told they are not members and will not get back their land and membership. This is provocation and robbery.
Between December 2009- March 2010-many producing members who are not interested in cane-farming any more applied verbally and in writing to the society for the land, but they were not given a chance to pay their debts and get the land. This is discrimination and it should be corrected.
It appears that you and Minister Nadir are allowing this corrupt clique (committee of management) and Deodat (a/k Beardman) to illegally take over this cooperative or split/divide it.
Beardman is trespassing on these farmers’ lands. He and the committee are hoping the longer you take to rectify this injustice, he Beardman will get the farmers’ lands.
The farmers are all waiting on you to help address this great injustice, corruption, fraud and discrimination, etc. or at least help the farmers to get legal advice and representation.
Hoping for a just settlement for these farmers and penalties for guilty committee and Beardman.
All for the development of the Belle Vue Farmers and Cooperative Society in Guyana.
All for law and Order and social justice
