Two brazen bandits attacked Lahago’s Super Centre of 11 Public Road, Montrose, East Coast Demerara, and snatched an undisclosed sum of money, cellular phones, and phone cards.
The two then fled on foot. All this happened about (13:00 hrs) yesterday and the (security cameras) recorded the entire ordeal.
At that hour of the day and with security surveillance these parasites have absolutely no fear these days and some more drastic measures must be put in place.
However, last evening one of them was cornered and captured by ranks of the Community Policing Group, citizens and police ranks.
He was caught hiding in the bushes at the Montrose sea wall. At the time he had a .32 handgun and four matching rounds. He had wet currency notes in his crotch.
As one of SN bloggers put it, The police department in Guyana is a big joke.
It’s time to take action and issue high-powered weapons to the community policing groups.
Guyana needs more members in these policing groups and more weapons.
I could never disagree with that statement and the blogger, simply because this is how most Guyanese see it.
It would appear that the majority of Guyanese citizens know what needs to be done, except the authorities.
Does the government not see how Guyana’s security forces are failing its very own citizens?
Most people in and out of Guyana know about “Kith & Kin” when it comes to Guyana’s security forces.
Guyanese are fed up and sick and tired of hearing only around election time these criminal activities rear their ugly heads.
Guyanese are fed up and sick and tired of hearing only when there are big events such as concerts these criminal activities rear their ugly heads.
If this is the case as some officials said then what is being done at election time and big event times to stop these barbaric criminal acts?
In the minds of most Guyanese, absolutely nothing is being done simply because it’s happening over and over and over with no end in sight.
Most Guyanese also know which ethnic group is bearing the full brunt of these horrific acts of violence and terror that are rained on them.
East Indians for too long have become the free-for-all frenzy for bands of marauding bandits.
How long must they live in fear of sheer terror?
Those that are in authority are urged to do something extremely drastic because the time calls for it and that time is now, not tomorrow not next week or next month or after elections are over or a big event is over with.
That time has now come to arm its innocent, law-abiding citizens so they must protect their very own lives and that of their families and property.
