Fudadin to lead Titans

FOLLOWING three practice sessions, reigning Twenty20 champions Universal DVD Club Berbice Titans have selected a 14-man squad, headed by national skipper Assad Fudadin, to compete in this Sunday’s Arrival Day Committee one-day T20 tournament at the Albion Sports Club ground. Four Association teams namely West Berbice Super Kings, East Berbice Universal DVD Club Titans, East Coast Carib Jaguars and Georgetown Pitbulls will do battle in two semi-finals and one final for a top prize of $400 000 and a trophy.
The Adrian Amsterdam-coached and Anil Beharry-managed Titans line-up includes Sewnarine Chattergoon and Richard Ramdeen, Narsingh Deonarine, Farouk Hussain and former national Under-19 skipper Anthony Bramble.
Also included in the Titans lineup are Kevin Ramdeen, Troy Matheison and the hard-hitting Jonathan Foo, who two years ago displayed his potentials as a T20 batsman when he demolished Georgetown Pitbulls’ bowling line-up while being a guest player for the New Line Cavaliers.
Such a feat occurred during the first-ever DJ Stress-organised T20 Festival at the Guyana National Stadium, while last year he took the Caribbean by storm with his clean hitting that took Guyana to the first-ever West Indies Cricket Board’s Caribbean T20 tournament.
Meanwhile, the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) held a practice match at the Guyana Defence Force ground on Wednesday, when Leon Johnson’s XI defeated a Ramnaresh Sarwan-led XI by four wickets.
Batting first, Sarwan’s XI were restricted to 122 with West Indies T20 all-rounder Christopher Barnwell leading the way with 31 (1×4, 1×6) while Sarwan himself made 19 with a similar number of boundaries as Barnwell.
Anthony Ifill and Paul Wintz were the principal wicket-takers for Johnson’s XI, ending with two wickets each for 14 and 19 runs respectively and in their reply, Johnson’s XI led by 26 (2×4, 2×6) from Robin Bacchus and 22 from Clevon Hyman, reached 123-6, with Trevon Garraway taking 2-32 for Sarwan’s XI.
According to national coach Mark Harper, the GCA selection committee would be meeting sometime today or tomorrow to select and announce the team that would represent the Association in the one-day festival which is in its third year.
