Let’s re-introduce the Card on Etiquette used in the 1940s

REGARDING a letter in the Guyana Chronicle by Joyce Sinclair, published on April 21, on the lack of etiquette by all and sundry, I would like to make a simple suggestion. Let’s re-introduce the Card we all use to receive when we started school in the forties (1940s). It had a list of “To do’s”, but I can only remember the first line, which goes like this: “Speak quietly, for quiet speech is a sign of refinement”. It was prominently displayed on the wall in almost every home, and my mother made sure that I not only read it but memorized it as well.
