Ready or not, here comes Easter…G T style

THE KITES have already been made or bought, some are already bobbing and swaying in the breeze, the kids are bristling with excitement, and parents are just praying for the day to arrive. It’s Easter-time! And all is set for a perfect holiday. I chatted with four teenagers in Albouystown, and they shared with me their plans for Easter. Nikeita (Kita) and Brittany Adams are sisters, and they move together. Their wish-list is a rather expensive one, but they are confident it will materialize.  They both intend to have for the holiday Polo pants from Colours on Robb Street, creative recreation boots, lace-front wigs, salon fees to fix their hair, Polo ‘tees’, and enough cash to attend the Kartel and Popcorn shows.
The two young men, Mario Stanford and Mark Anthony, aka ‘Five-Star-General’, are members of the Harpy Eagles Boxing Gym. They, too, will be going to the Kartel/Popcorn shows. They will also be sporting brand new outfits: Polo pencil pants, Aeropostale jerseys and Calvin Kline boots are their choices. Money for the show is a must.
For a Tiger Bay family, it is more about fun for the kids. A basket of snacks will be prepared on Easter Monday. All the children are expected to have a kite, courtesy of the President, Mr.  Bharrat Jagdeo, who distributes kites each year to all the children of that community.
The youngsters are eagerly anticipating this. Giftland Office Max is also expected to give away kites to that area. On Easter Monday, the entire family will go to the seawall behind the Pegasus Hotel and have a fine time flying their kites and playing. The best part, I am sure, will be devouring the contents of the basket.
The children at Joshua House are all looking forward to a grand time this Easter. The Rotary Club takes ten children kite-flying each year. Other organizations donate kites to the Home. Some children have already begun to experiment with making their own homemade kites, and many bed sheets are made to suffer as a consequence in the quest for kite tails.
Some kites are flown in the yard at Joshua House. The bigger kids go to the National Park, and some to the Parade Ground, just nearby. The smaller ones usually enjoy the cross-buns and the kites during this season. The more mature adolescents are aware of the significance of Easter, and watch ‘The Passion of Our Lord’ on T.V. They all make going to church a key part of their Easter holiday celebration.
