Man remanded for throwing poison in another man’s food

COLLIN Gockhul (no address given) was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton on a charge of attempting to commit a felony by administering a noxious substance (poison) to food belonging to Ramgopaul Tejowah.

The indictable charge, to which the accused was not required to plead, stated that on April 10, at Loo Creek on the Soesdyke Linden Highway, he unlawfully and maliciously attempted to administer to Tejowah, a poison so as to endanger his life and to cause grievous bodily harm.
When the magistrate asked the accused if he is making an application for bail, the accused said ‘No’.
Facts in the case stated that the accused and virtual complainant were at a creek when the accused threw the poisonous substance in the virtual complainant’s food. After the accused became intoxicated, he boasted that he threw poison in the virtual complainant’s food.
The matter was reported and the accused was subsequently arrested and charged.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, requested that the accused be remanded to prison and that the case be transferred to Christiansburg Magistrate’s Court.
Gockhul was remanded to prison and the matter will be called again on May 3, at Christiansburg court. (Nathalene DeFreitas)
