THE Stabroek and the Kaieteur News have Guyanese wondering whether the newspapers are professional media houses as they claim or just Opposition Political machinery used to achieve the political agenda of the Opposition Political Parties in Guyana.
The newspapers have, overtime, publicly shown their allegiances with the Opposition Political parties as they tow the lines of their political masters. Readers can refresh their minds and they would see that these two newspapers have contributed significantly to the misinformation of Government plans, programmes and initiatives which benefits thousands of Guyanese countrywide.
The facts have also shown that these were deliberate attempts on the part of the Editors and some Reporters to discredit the Government. Overtime, the newspapers have also contributed to the segregation of some sections of society when inaccurate information and untruths are disseminated to the members of the public.
It is important to note that the Editors and some Reporters of these newspapers are the same people claiming that Guyana is not a democratic society and is one where freedom of expression is lacking, yet these people write and publish the boldest of lies and no attempt is made by anyone in Government to shut them down or even sanction them. It boggles my mind as to what definition these people use for “freedom of speech”?
The public should know that these newspapers have become political instruments of the Political Opposition in Guyana and all other opponents of the Government. Remember, this is silly season and everyone is criticizing and sharing their views on how the PPP/C is running the affairs of the state but no one has taken time to actually highlight the fact that life in every facet of society has been improved significantly under the Jagdeo administration.
Some of the very people who are using the newspapers to distort the facts for their personal and political gains are living a better life today as a result of the opportunities for elevation and the advancements in society which was made possible by the efforts of the PPP/C administration.
The time has come again when the country is due for another election and at this time Guyanese should stand together and participate in the elections voting for continued development and advancement of life in every society. We should not allow the mischievous and fringe elements in society to misguide us. Stand strong and tall, vote for the PPP/C!
