…once at La Grange Police Station and secondly at ID Parade
REPUTED wife Gilshan Bess identified the alleged masked killer of her husband Terrence Anderson twice as Sherwin Smith – the accused who allegedly shot her husband Terrence on December 7, 2006 before robbing her of $60,000 at her Sophia home. Despite the number of times she explained that she was able to identify the robber because of a fully stretched-out stocking mask that enabled her to properly see that the gun-man  was a square-faced person,  with brown complexion and about five feet six inches in height, defence counsel Peter Hugh, was up to late yesterday questioning the mother.
The pregnant woman, because of her advanced stage of pregnancy, was allowed to sit in the well of the court to give her testimony.
Her evidence in chief was conducted by prosecutor Miss Konyo Sandiford, with Miss Zamilla Ally.
One of the police witnesses who testified told the court that during the investigation, the witness, who had given a description about the gunman that entered her house and shot her husband, was invited to La Grange Police Station, where a prisoner was on a bench.
According to the police witness, on arrival at the station, the witness, upon seeing the man on the bench, shouted “This is the man who shot my child father and rob me”.
The witness noted that the man on bench whom she identified had a wound on the head from which blood was oozing.  
According to her, the following day she was invited to another police station where she was asked to pick out the gunman on the parade of nine men.
The woman said that the man she had seen the previous day was on parade, with the wound on his head.  
On being questioned by defence counsel, the witness said that she could not remember any distinctive dress among the members on parade;
In answer to further questions by defence counsel, witness said that  the stocking mask the accused was wearing at the time of the  murder-robbery did not fall off the face of the gunman at any time.
The hearing continues today before Justice Roxanne and a mixed jury at the Demerara Assizes.
