Cell phone thief to spend the next three months in prison cell

JOEL Jordon, 26, of Lot 51 D’Urban Street, Lodge was yesterday sentenced to three months imprisonment by Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for stealing a teacher’s cell phone. He pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that, on March 22, he stole one cell phone valued $35,000 property of Merlene Williams.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, said on the day in question, the defendant went to the South Road Nursery school and enquired from the virtual complainant the procedure to enrol his child into the school.
Pindar said as the virtual complainant moved from her desk to get information for the defendant, he picked up her phone, which was on the desk at the time and made good his escape.
She said the matter was reported and the defendant was later arrested and charged. (Nathalene DeFreitas)
