Essequibians react positively to Ramotar selection

SEVERAL Essequibians have commented positively on the recent selection of Mr. Donald Ramotar as the Presidential Candidate of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) at the upcoming elections.
The Guyana Chronicle spoke to some of them whose comments follow:

** Victorine Allicock, of Capoey , employee in the Hinterland and Local Government Department of the Regional Administration, said she is very proud that the party has, finally, selected its Presidential Candidate.
“As an Amerindian, it gives me great joy because Mr. Ramotar is part of the Amerindian population. His mother is of Amerindian origin and he was born in the Amerindian community of Caria Caria along Essequibo River,” she said.
Allicock continued: “I know Mr. Ramotar will become a great President and sustain the development of Guyana started by President Bharrat Jagdeo. I know my fellow Amerindians will give their full support to Mr. Ramotar.”
** Chairman of Evergreen/Paradise Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC), Mr. Cornel Damon, of Dartmouth, said the selection process has shown the unity in the party.
“Donald will be a great and wonderful President, who will continue in the footsteps of current President Bharrat Jagdeo and be loved by many persons across the country,” Damon predicted.
Housewife and leading member of the Women’s Progressive Organisation (WPO), Mrs. Nadia Seeram, of Pomona, agreed Ramotar Donald will be a good President and would get the full support of Essequibians at the polls.
Chairperson of the Essequibo WPO, Mrs. Juliet Coonjah said the decision to make Ramotar the PPP Presidential Candidate is a very good one.
She said she appreciates the support given him by the other presidential contenders.  “It shows unity in the party.”
Coonjah said Ramotar is capable and can lead this country in the path of development started by President Jagdeo.
Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) Chairman, Mr. Ali Baksh said he has great respect for all the Presidential Candidates that took part in the process and is happy that the decision was made unanimously because it shows the strength of the party.
He said he has known Ramotar since the 1960s and was part of a delegation, including himself, who spent some 30 months studying Political Science in the Soviet Union.
Baksh said he and Ramotar have been members of the Central Committee of the PPP for many years and the latter is a stalwart and loyalist of the party, who takes very strong positions, ideologically, on both internal and international politics, areas in which he has much respect for him.
He said Ramotar is a very simple man who comes from a working class background and has never lost touch with the ordinary working people.
