One husband fined, bonded for wife assault

RALPH Balkarran was fined $10,000 and bonded to keep the peace for a year after being convicted, yesterday, of assaulting his wife, Lokshmie Persaud.
He pleaded guilty, before Magistrate Sherdel Isaccs-Marcus at Leonora Court, to the unlawful assault offence, particulars of which said it was committed on April 2, at Stewartville.

Balkarran admitted that he and his spouse had an argument, over the borrowing of money to purchase a cell phone, which resulted in the woman being pushed.
Ivor Khan, another defendant who faced a similar charge in the same court, was put on $10,000 bail and his case was postponed to May 16.
He pleaded not guilty, denying that, on April 1, at Den Amstel, also on West Coast Demerara, he unlawfully and maliciously assaulted his wife, Grace Khan.
