AMERICAN gospel artiste, William McDowell, called on President Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday at his official State House residence before performing inspirational songs to a large Guyanese audience.
McDowell, famed for his hit single, ‘I Give Myself Away’, is here for the first time on a worship symposium, followed by a gospel concert at the National Park.
He was accompanied while visiting the President by Rev. Dr Kwame Gilbert and Apostle Claude Brooks. McDowell, a protégé of famous gospel artiste, Ron Kenoly, told the Government Information Agency (GINA) that he was honoured to meet the country’s Head of State, whom he described as generous and a man of integrity.
“We offered to pray for him and for the nation… It’s clear that he is open to God doing some things in the nation, and open to working with churches,” McDowell said, adding that he looks forward to a show of passionate worship.
“I believe that when the people of God come together and sing to the Lord, He begins to release vision and revelation to people, and begins to place His heart on the inside of people,” he said.
Although it was too early for him to share his impressions on Guyana, McDowell said he was still eager to experience sections of the country touted as the most attractive. He was however impressed with the Guyanese hospitality.
“The people themselves are wonderful people, and the representation of the nation may not necessarily be its physical beauty, but the beauty of its people…, he said, adding: “We have been treated wonderfully, and we are honoured to be here.”
