HEAD of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon said approval was granted for the appointment of His Excellency Muslin Tugrul Kilicaslam, as Ambassador Extraordinaire and Plenipotentiary from the Republic of Turkey to Guyana. Kilicaslam would be non-resident Ambassador from Caracas, Venezuela and would be responsible for the diplomatic relations with Guyana for the next three years.
Dr. Luncheon said that Government’s thrust to enhance the country’s economic diplomacy, has seen its foreign representatives and President Bharrat Jagdeo journeying to places such as the Middle East and North Africa among others.
“The rise of Turkey among the newly evolved international financial and economic growth centers has created opportunities for Guyana and possibilities of Guyanese-Turkish engagements,” the HPS said.
Turkey is a manufacturing nation and is also quite established for its agriculture, science and technology.
Government has been working with international agencies, and the United Nations (UN) to provide opportunities for young Guyanese in the areas of training, among others.
“We anticipate that there would be increasing convergence in other aspects of international relationships that would benefit Guyana as a developing country as we forge closer ties with the Turkish Government,” Dr. Luncheon said. (GINA)
